Transportation

guangxi-lirivertouristboat385xLocal Transport: Guangxi’s three transportation hubs – Nanning, Liuzhou and Guilin – are linked into a railroad-river-air network that covers the entire region. The various choices provide quick, safe and inexpensive transportation to all Guangxi’s destinations and attractions as well as to neighbouring provinces and other Mekong countries.

Five domestic airports – Nanning, Guilin, Beihai, Liuzhou and Wuzhou – serve Guangxi with flights from over a dozen airlines connecting to more than 100 destinations throughout China. Guilin is one of China’s main railway hubs with a north and south station serving two main trunk lines and all destinations in central and western China. Guangxi itself has over 3,000 kilometres of track.

With over 50,000 kilometres of highways, Guangxi’s network reaches all major and minor urban centres and links to the country’s other provinces, the Pearl River Region and Vietnam, with modern coaches making the trips.

Guangxi’s many rivers and 1,600-kilometre coast offer ample boat transport. Many short cruises embark on journeys along the Xiangjiang and Li Rivers heading for Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macau. Shorter Guilin day cruises include a four-hour sail to Yangshuo.

Transport around Guangxi’s cities and towns are via taxi, motorized tricycle and rental bicycle.

International Air Access: Connections to all major overseas destinations are easily available through Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Liangjiang International Airport just south of Guilin, is among China’s five largest and serves international flights to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Fukuoka, Macau and Seoul. Trains to and from Vietnam also pass through Guilin twice a week.
